I had the luck of leading a top team of mountain club veterans, some of the toughest and greatest of our section, on this spectacular coastal route that is slowly degrading into an off-path excursion.

L to R: Fred van Berkel, Greg Devine, Gillian Forbes, Gerda Forbes (guest), Janet Moore and Cheryl Devine (behind the camera – Nicky van Berkel)

Nicky did a solo route along the top of the escarpment, on the lookout for flowers.

The rest of the hikers descended down to the pebble beach with the lovely red rock formations.

This trail has sadly been neglected for the past ten years and numerous new paths or attempts of routes have appeared. We missed part of the trail and in true mountain club style we opted for a rock/boulder scramble instead.

After the fun of scrambling up, the weather decided to send us some more challenges with near gale force winds that buffeted us as we traversed the rocky remains of the route.

This also resulted in some magnificent big waves and a view of true nature as the storm front approached.

Luckily, we were all prepared for the rain and pioneered on taking on nature in proper mountain club fashion.

With a wetter return back to the cars I was still pleased to be back outdoors with a great team of hikers.
