Late night Xmas parties and dire weather warnings were never going to deter today’s members undertaking this short hike starting at Glentana beach and heading in an Easterly direction for just under 4 kilometres.
Starting at 0800 we knew we had plenty of time to reach our destination before the tide turned at 1000.
It’s a lovely piece of coastline with high cliffs most of the way but the going starts to get interesting about 500 metres before the caves to which we were heading. Fortunately, today the waves were so low that there was no feeling of intimidation should one have the misfortune to slip over the edge of the narrow ledge that one must navigate across.
All over that obstacle safely and in good time we had plenty of chance to explore several of the caves including one where a couple of our party donned head torches and crawled into the furthest recess about 50 metres from the entrance. After that a quick snack was taken on the rocks before heading back the way we had come.
Snack Time
There was hardly a breath of wind today and about 1 kilometre from the end we started to fill plastic bags with beach debris. There was a lot less debris here than I’ve seen before so perhaps more people are starting to look after and care for their coastal environment.
