From my chair: Greetings, all It was again good to see so many out a few days ago at our most recent social. For your diaries, please note that there will be no social in the first week of November. Instead, we will be holding our Section’s Year-End Function on the evening of Friday 13th [...]
From my chair: Dear all It gives me great delight to tell you that Greg and Cheryl Devine were made Honorary Life Members of the South Cape Section at a very well-attended social gathering on 6 August. Space on this page and their own modesty precludes listing their contributions over the years. Suffice it to [...]
From my chair: 33° 55’ 03.28”S 22° 30’ 52.34”E Dear all Allow me to start with a gentle nag: most of you have now sent Werner (wfrei.sedge@gmail.com) a picture of your happy smiling face for the new electronic membership card system, but not all of you . . . Please do comply with this request [...]
From my chair: 33° 58’ 31.17”S 22° 35’ 44.89”E Dear all With our May Social having to be cancelled due to inclement weather there was no opportunity to give a short report back on the MCSA’s National Meet, hosted by the EP Section. An article did appear in the local newspaper, however, which can be [...]
From my chair: 47° 23’ N, 9° 45’ E Dear all You’re familiar with the long-standing South Cape Section’s approach to publicising meets. We’ve had a couple of requests to supplement the existing email system with a WhatsApp group. Now I know perfectly well that such groups can be a serious irritation, so please don’t [...]
From my chair: 33° 49’ S, 23° 10’ E Dear all From Pietersrivier: For those of you who didn’t attend this year’s AGM, I’m delighted to tell you that eight members of the Section rose to the challenge of ascending 20 Peaks during the Section’s 20th anniversary year. Andre B’s submission was the most comprehensive [...]
From my chair: 35° 10’ N, 136° 52’ E Dear all Not one of my peaks, sadly, but not a bad view on the walk from the underground to the school where Daughter#1 teaches. Definitely some more exploring is called for on this island. Luke Clark of the Cape Town Section is this year’s recipient [...]
From my chair: Dear all The only peaks visible today from my perch in Singapore are skyscrapers, which aren’t of much interest to me but may be attractive to Alex Honnold (if you haven’t watched it already, you may wish to take a gander at his latest exploit in Taipei: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXiEp_GGSpg). Time’s running out [...]
From my chair: Dear all 2025 is officially over, and I do hope that you’re developing plans for a plethora of enjoyable excursions in the hills this year. And if you are, that you’ll offer some of these as meets to your fellow club-members! ‘Let a hundred flowers bloom’, as a well-known and now deceased [...]
From my chair: 34° 00’ 53” S 22° 47’ 10”E (elevation 41m) Dear all It was great to see such a good turnout for the Section’s Christmas Party this week. Lots of good food enjoyed with entertaining conversation on a spectacularly beautiful evening at the Bowling Club. Some pictures of the festivities follow this page. [...]
