Ten happy members gathered on a perfect spring day to enjoy the hike through the dense forest on the southern slopes of the Outeniqua Mountains in the Goudveld region.
From L to R: Jude Cobern, Nelia Parma, Anne MacGregor, Sandy Louw, Brian Cobern, Karin van Niekerk, Janet Moore, Dave van Wyk, Stuart Neill, with pic taken by leader.
Initially the path heads up clearly on jeep tracks, but then veers left below the fire lookout on an old unused path. The rapid bracken growth spurred on by the good rainfalls and spring season made locating the path difficult at times.
A pleasant lunch spot was found in a clearing where we could relax and enjoy the calling of the forest birds, like the Black-headed Oriole and the raucous Green Wood-hoopoe.
Then we descended through the dense forest to cross the Lawnwood River, and on to our vehicles.
A delightful easy circuit through the pristine indigenous forest. It would be a good option on a sunny summer’s day.
