Dave and I were pleased when 3 others joined us for an easy walk on the eastern shores of the George dam. It was a beautiful day for walking, magnificent views and good company.
L to R: Dave Jones, Mike van der Heyde, Claudine Bennetts and Jenny Brovelli (guest and photographer)
The decided strategy was to walk along the dam bank on a jeep track until just before 11 o’clock , have a tea break and walk back to the cars. That way we would all arrive back at the cars at lunch time. We set off at a comfortable pace and more or less stayed together until tea time. There was no wind so the reflections were amazing and with some clouds it never got too hot.
Lovely reflections of the Outeniquas
Lovely path for walking, if you are a “Doddler” and Wildlife to look at. Claudine and Fay curing the “Ills of the world” .
Have a look at the leggy shrub the spider has used (above). The Khoisan used this plant for making plaited rope using the bark. (Struthiola ciliata, grows in sandy flats and lower slopes in Namaqualand and southwestern Cape – I will bring a small sample to the next Social).
We stopped for a tea break where the leader stopped a bit longer to rest her weary feet, the rest walked on up to the next rise in the road. We returned back to the cars , arriving within 5 minutes of each other. Distance walked, about 8 Kms by Dave’s calculation.
A good morning’s leg stretch.
Thank you to the three who joined us .
