Two weeks into the new year already, and I do trust that 2025 has begun very well for all of you. Much to do, much to enjoy, sights to see, hills to ascend, and hopefully much to be grateful for.
Looking back for a moment, many of you may not know that one of our Section’s members, Maretha Alant, has now relinquished her role with the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA). The scope of the Mountain Protection Commission includes the environmental impact of mountaineering and the impact of climate change on mountain, and she served on this commission for more than a decade, a serious demonstration of commitment to a worthy cause.
Looking forward, please be aware that not all the members of the 2024 South Cape Section Committee will be continuing in their roles after our AGM. I would encourage those who would like to serve the Section’s members in this way to get in contact with me to discuss possibilities.
