Dear all
Not one of my peaks, sadly, but not a bad view on the walk from the underground to the school where Daughter#1 teaches. Definitely some more exploring is called for on this island.
Luke Clark of the Cape Town Section is this year’s recipient of the MCSA Young Explorers Award (YEA!). He is planning a lightweight, high altitude, low-impact expedition across the Kingdom of Lesotho by bicycle, linking remote highland regions and mountain passes, and doing some exploratory ascents of Maloti peaks en route.
Additional news is that the Expedition Sub Committee is starting a Social Development Expedition Fund. This will be aimed at supporting mountaineers who would normally not qualify for the YEA! Award or are not expeditioning (in the narrow sense), but are loyal MCSA members who contribute to their Section, but are cash strapped, and have a worthwhile project in mind. If any of you would like more informationre this new fund feel free to get in contact with me.
Closer to home, the new membership system for the South Cape Section is coming together very well. You all should have received a request to confirm your personal details and to provide a suitable mug shot for your electronic membership cards. At the time of writing, however, response levels are only slightly above the South African pass level for matriculation. Please do comply with the request to provide the information timeously!
The AGM is almost upon us, and I look forward to seeing many of you there.
‘til another time
